Say Hi To Your Mom

Say Hi To Your Mom

Brooklyn songwriter Eric Elbogen, who happens to be Say Hi To Your Mom, returned this year with an entire album about modern-day vampires. His band, however, is the opposite of goth (or at least, “Not As Goth As They Say We Are”), and plays catchy whispered lo-fi pop-rock.

For the first time, Mr. Elbogen’s touring band (drummer and keyboardist) are featured on the recording, and using their combined powers they produced Impeccable Blahs, the band’s best effort to date. The songs are true to Say Hi To Your Mom’s intimate hushed melodies, but sound more expansive than past bedroom recording sessions.

Although Pitchfork may have ripped this record a new one (Who’s got an overreaching cleverness problem?), “These Fangs” remains one of my favorite songs of this year.

Listen: These Fangs, Angels and Darlas, Sad, But Endearingly So, Snowcones and Puppies from Impeccable Blahs.

(CD’s are only $8!)
